The Waves Crashed Against the Rocky Bank
The waves crashed against the rocky bank, ripping away the stone. I walked along the cold, empty harbour, looking into the pool of blackness. The rain crashed around me, hitting my pale skin, then running off leaving sharp distinct red marks on my arms and legs. As I walked I could feel the cool wind breezing past me blowing my hair in my face. I was cold and lost. In the darkness I heard footsteps close behind me then another set, then there was muffled voices, drowned out by the moaned whispers of the wind. Snippets of words floated towards me. My body froze, partially from the cool wind and the rain slashing against me. I started moving further into the pool of black darkness, my footsteps small and tentative. The footsteps approached sharp quick steps more decisive, like they were searching for something, searching for me.
The footsteps moved quicker now, almost running, my body started moving faster and faster and then I ran out of ground, no more earth beneath me, just feeling of cold water, pulling me down, down and under. I pulled at the water hoping for someone to save me. Then I saw it in the murky water, a rusty brown old ladder, my light, my only saviour. The Small light inside was slowly dying, and my body yearned for air. I tried to reach out to the ladder but I couldn’t reach my panicking and drifting further away, longing for the air above. Looking up I saw a shadow on the water, of a person, I called for help, begging them to notice me, just begging for air. The shadow walked away, I shutdown, my only hopes were washing away with the waves, my body hurt, aching everywhere. There was a crash of waves and splash and something moved in the water. And then there was the darkness. It had finally engulfed me, pulling me into a deep slow trance, never to be broken.
My body felt numb, my throat was hoarse and as I coughed, sharp needle like pains, poked at it. My chest felt heavy like I was carrying tons of water inside me. In seconds I was over come by fear, all my pain forgotten, just the fear, building up inside me waiting to explode, but the fear of being heard was more fearful than anything. Gently I wiggled my toes and finger individually, than gently lifting my arms and legs slightly off ground, tentatively I resting them back on the floor as sharp twisted, tight pains ran through my legs and up over my body to my arms. I lay back and let the tears gently glide down my face. My body felt heavy as I pushed myself into a ball, clinging on to my knees, I let it go, I sobbed, not caring about who or what heard or saw me. Slowly I heard soft footstep on the hard laminate flooring, then I felt a small sharp pain and then nothing but numbness, as I lay back I saw someone close the door and then I saw nothing but black.
When I awoke again it was to a soft, silent grunt of a man. I felt him shake me away from the slow dreamy tunnel of darkness I was in. When I surfaced, I saw no one, like he was some kind of dream. I sat up to see a tray with a piece of burnt toast and shrivelled up egg, showing just how I felt, lost and confused. I tried lifting my heavy, water-filled body off the ground making it to a crouched position, before falling back, with a heavy thud, I waited and waited for the heavy footsteps, but they never came, I heard nothing, my head was spinning with thirst and my stomach groaned out longingly for the shrivelled up egg and the burnt piece of toast. i tried again this time going on all fours and crawling to the plate. As I approached it, I couldn’t stop I was practically salivating wit excitement, I grabbed at the plate shovelled the cold ice water down my throat, hastily shoving the cold crispy, burnt toast down my throat making the pain come back all over again, but I didn’t care I was to hungry.
I felt stronger, with my stomach full and my throat less hoarse. My body felt heavy as I pushed with all my strength to pull my water-logged body into a crouched sitting position. Glancing swiftly round the room I took note my surroundings, there was a metal door which looked tightly shut. A single wooden board on the floor with what looked like a large potato sack, which I automatically assumed was my bed and there next to it lay my empty egg and toast plate. It was so surreal, I felt like I was at home so relaxed, unpanicked about where I was, that it felt like I needed to panic, but my body wouldn’t let me. I felt woozy and nothing hurt anymore I felt was fearless, nothing could stop me. Things started to sway and I heard two voices one male and the other female. Then things were black.
Coming around from the sleep wasn’t as bad as last time I felt used to it and it seemed natural now, I could still eel the drugs wearing off and my head still felt woozy but I was more aware now than I was last time. I remembered the voices, so familiar yet not present in my memory. Now I started to panic. I knew those voices; those people, yet I couldn’t place them in my memory. Breathing heavily I started to cry, tears swelling in my eyes. I was lost and confused and nothing seemed right. There on the floor next to me lay another plate filled with lumpy leftover mash potato with what looked cat food beside it, picking up my fork I sniffed the food and took small mouth full chewing fully as to make sure I checked all of the flavours, it seemed fine but I wasn’t stupid the egg did as well, I figured if I ate little of then I wouldn’t be affected by it as much as before and I may be awake the next time they entered. I could still hear their voices flying around my head. Although I never actually heard what they said I could tell it was something to do with me as they talked quickly in hushed tones. What were they planning to do with me…………
